Pre-Installation Phase
Site Assessment
Evaluate solar access (shading analysis), roof condition and age, structural load capacity, and electrical service panel capacity. Use a Solar Pathfinder or SunEye for precise shading measurements.
Permitting
Submit structural calculations, electrical single-line diagram, site plan, and equipment specifications to local building department. Typical review: 2-4 weeks.
Installation Phase
Mounting & Racking
Mark layout, install flashings/l-feet at rafter locations, mount rails, verify level and alignment. Torque all bolts to manufacturer specifications. Install bonding jumpers for equipment grounding.
Panel Installation
Handle panels by frame — never by junction box or cables. Use end-clamps and mid-clamps per manufacturer spacing. Maintain minimum 6" gap for cooling airflow.
Electrical Wiring
Home-run DC cables in metal conduit. String fusing if >2 parallel strings. Install DC disconnect at point-of-entry. Verify polarity before closing disconnects.
Commissioning
Measure Voc, Isc per string. Verify insulation resistance >1 MΩ. Energize and monitor inverter startup sequence. Document all measurements for warranty record.
