India Launches World's Largest Floating Solar Plant at 1.2 GW

Record-Breaking Floating Solar

India has commissioned the world's largest floating solar photovoltaic plant, a 1.2 GW installation on the Omkareshwar Dam reservoir in Madhya Pradesh. The project covers 2,000 hectares of water surface with over 3 million solar panels mounted on floating structures.

Floating solar offers multiple advantages: no land acquisition costs, reduced water evaporation, and improved panel efficiency from water cooling. India plans to develop 10 GW of floating solar capacity by 2030.
